Greetings!  It is with great pleasure to announce that I’ve landed another cover this month for YES! Magazine‘s Fall 2011 issue.  The article is about people who said no to corporate jobs and features SoupCycle’s Jed Lazar on the cover of the book.  His business it delivering healthy, handmade soups, salads and breads via bicycle throughout the city of Portland.  It’s a brilliant plan for those busy people and/or families who want to have a simple, organic meal delivered fresh to their door without having to think about making dinner.  Plus, the bicycle delivery makes the dinner that much more guilt-free because it’s delivered without the help of fossil fuels – just Jed and his team on bikes!  Super yum.  If you live in Portland, sign up for a SoupScription.

When I looked at yesterday’s Oregonian Newspaper, I was quite pleased to read Barry Johnson’s article about Plazm Magazine’s new issue.  In today’s economic climate, it’s extremely difficult for all media outlets to keep on keepin’ on, but even more challenging to publish an independent magazine about culture, art, and design, (among other esoteric subjects).  Plazm Magazine received a grant plus some Kickstarter money in order to keep up its great work and just launched its most recent issue, number 30.  To be associated with Plazm Magazine is a tremendous honor, but even better when my name is included with “seriously talented” people like John Jay, Todd Haynes and Yoko Ono.  You can read the article here.

Hawaii is one of my favorite places on earth, which is why I am based there at least 4 months out of the year.  Maui happens to be my favorite Hawaiian Island, so I have an enormous stock photography collection from the time my husband and I spend there.  Of course, I’m not always shooting – what I love is the ocean water and the tropical breezes, two things that we don’t get in Portland.  Imagine my surprise when National Geographic Traveler Magazine decided to run this image on their September 2011 issue.  This has been one of my favorite portraits for some time, so I was thrilled.  I also think that the yellow plumeria goes nicely with the trademark yellow border of the magazine.  Thank you National Geographic Traveler!

Earlier this year I received my first assignment for Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine.  The job was to shoot a portrait of crafter Denise Sharp who has her studio here in my hometown of Portland, Oregon.  Denise is an extremely innovative designer who can make anything out of anything.  Her eye for materials, color and texture is something of a marvel.  Her studio is packed with the ephemera needed to make such glorious items as paper favor boxes in the shape of the Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe, gorgeous paper flowers.  The photo ran small, but everyone was happy.  I encourage you to check out her website, studiosharp.com.
