My New Web Site

After looking at what feels like a million web sites, designs, templates, services, etc.. I finally settled on a Photo Folio.  I looked at them a few months ago and wasn’t that impressed, Livebooks seemed better, but after a second look, what they claim, that it’s all about the photos, isn’t untrue.  I have been working on the site for 3 days, and I find everything about the process of working with the template fairly pleasant.  Plus the Help section is actually helpful.  Do I sound cynical?  At any rate, if you are a photographer, or want any images you may make to look good on the web, this may be the place for you.  Check it out here.  I’m still building it, but as soon as it’s up, I’ll announce it here!  Thanks for visiting.

I took a workshop with collodion expert Jody Ake last July and fell in love with the process.  The end product, an ambrotype, is truly seductive.  Here are 3 examples of plates I made in class.  They are 5×4″ and will be on display starting in January 2009 (omg) at the Froelick Gallery’s group show.

In a shameless attempt at self promotion, it is with great pride that I announce that my work has been accepted into the Tacoma Art Museum’s Northwest Biennial. The show is curated by Rock Hushka, the curator of Contemporary and Northwest Art at the museum and Alison de Lima Green, the curator of contemporary art and Special Projects at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. The work selected for exhibition, entitled “Nest,” is my most recent series of images. I will post some of the images here when the biennial show opens on January 31st. Yippee! In the mean time, my personal work can be viewed here or at the Froelick Gallery’s website. Thanks for visiting!

Steven and I with our new boards

Steven and I with our new boards

Steven has been surfing for 47 years so needless to say he has a lovely collection of boards, both vintage and contemporary.  His latest quiver is being shaped by Tom Parrish, of Gerry Lopez Lightning Bolt fame.  He recently picked up a 7’5″ styro and I finally got my own surfboard, also by Tom.  It’s a lovely 9’10″ sidewalk and although I may not deserve such a fine board, having only been surfing for about a year, and even then, it’s mostly been paddling, I love it and have been having a great time getting to know the beast.  It doesn’t like to go slow, it really seems to steady out when it’s going straight down the line on a nice, shoulder high wave.  I’ve only done that a few times, but it’s been a marvelous experience.  Our friend, Ron van Dongen took this great picture of us when he was here with his partner, David Rubin, last week.  Thanks for visiting!

Stoked about Obama

Needless to say, I am thrilled with the outcome of yesterday’s election.  Barack Hussein Obama will be a great president, despite the mess he is left with from 8 years of out-of-control Republican rule.  Our country needed, and now has, a civic-minded leader, one who is well educated, smart and articulate.  Yippee!  We celebrated by watching President Elect Obama’s acceptance speech on tv in Hawaii, with a beautiful sunset outside our window.

Obama wins!!!

Obama wins!!!
